Ground Water Advisory Committees

The function of the committees is to advise the State Engineer and Board of Control on matters relative to ground water development and to call and supervise the election of control area advisory boards. Appointment distribution: (3) members who reside in each of the four water divisions who adequately represent the landowners and water users of the division, the geographical areas of the division, and the public interest. There are 12 seats on the Ground Water Advisory Committees, four from each water division. Committee member terms are 6 years. Statutory authority is derived from W.S. 41-3-907. A Ground Water Advisory Committee was formed in each of the State's four Water Divisions. Each Committee consists of three individuals who reside in the Water Division and who are appointed by the Governor for six-year terms. The function of the Committees is to advise the State Engineer and Board of Control on matters relative to ground water development in their respective Water Division and to call and supervise the election of Control Area Advisory Boards.

UPCOMING ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETINGS:

The Division I Groundwater Advisory Committee will meet remotely Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. to discuss the committee's selection of nominating committees for the upcoming advisory board elections in both the Laramie County Control Area and the Platte County Control Area.


One of the duties of the division advisory committee is “to call and supervise the election of the members of control area advisory boards” (W.S. 41-3-908). The division advisory committee shall select a nominating committee of not less than three persons entitled to vote in the election of the control area advisory board. The nominating committee shall nominate at least one person for election in each district of the control area in which there is a vacancy. Within thirty days of its selection, the nominating committee shall report its nominations to the division advisory committee. The division advisory committee shall call an election of members of the control area advisory board within 40 days from the date of the report (W.S. 41-3-913).
