Snow Survey

In Wyoming, the Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting Program is a coordinated partnership between the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Wyoming State Engineer's Office (SEO).  By sharing personnel and equipment, the compilation of snow surveys and streamflow forecasts in Wyoming is completed in an efficient and timely manner, benefiting both parties, and ultimately the data consumer.

Snow is surveyed in Wyoming to determine the total amount of snow covering a watershed or a given region. Both depth and water content of the snow are measured, and the results are used to predict the amount of water that will be available after melting.

Please take the opportunity to explore the various snow data reports that are offered by the multiple agencies involved within the west-wide snow survey program.
