WATER METER INFORMATION FORM FOR LARAMIE COUNTY

For Water Reporting Requirements regarding the Laramie County State Engineer Order, please use the Water Meter Information form for initial water meter information or for updating information when changes are made.

WHO IS REQUIRED TO METER AND REPORT THEIR GROUNDWATER PRODUCTION

If you are required to meter and report your groundwater production, those requirements will be clearly stated in the Additional Conditions and Limitations attached to your groundwater permit. The Additional Conditions and Limitations will identify the basis on which you must submit groundwater production reports (i.e., monthly or annually).

Appropriators in areas subject to a State Engineer's Order (e.g., the Horse Creek area, and the Laramie County Control Area) are also required to meter and report their groundwater production.

Many appropriators with time-limited permits such as those used for oil and gas development, mining, and water sales, may also be required to meter and report their groundwater production.

When selecting a flow meter, consider the volume of water being produced annually, the well yield, and the discharge pipe diameter.  Unless a variance has been approved by the SEO, flow meters shall meet the specifications described in the Selecting the Right Flow Meter and Flow Meter Specifications section of the State Engineer's Office Guidance: Water Meter Selection Specifications and Water Production Reporting

HOW TO INSTALL A FLOW METER

Flow meters should be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions to meet the flow meter specifications and installation requirements provided in the Installing a Flow Meter section of the Guidance.

If you are required to install a meter to meet the conditions of a State Engineer Order (e.g., Horse Creek or Laramie County Control Area), the physical meter installation must be approved by the Superintendent of your respective water division (contact information is provided on the respective Water Division pages Division I,  Division II, Division III, and Division IV).  All other meter installations must be acceptable to the State Engineer.  If you require guidance, please contact the Ground Water Division at (307) 777-6163.

Once installed, applicable flow meter information must be submitted to the Ground Water Division on the Water Meter Information included in the Guidance.  Completed forms may be submitted via mail or email.

Each meter requires a separate form be submitted.  Each newly installed meter requires a new form be submitted (including temporary meter installations if the regular meter is removed for servicing).

HOW TO READ A FLOW METER

Information on how to read and collect information from various types of flow meters is provided in the Reading a Flow Meter section of the Guidance.

If you have any questions, please call the Ground Water Division at (307) 777-6163, your local Water Superintendent, or Hydrographer/Water Commissioner.
